SUMMARY:Part 2 of 2: Shell we begin? Unix Command Line Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:The Unix command line is a powerful tool that allows you to
control operation systems (OSs) directly with text commands\, which allows
more flexibility and efficiency beyond what the Graphic User Interfaces
(GUIs) offer. In addition\, complex calculations and data analyses are
often run on High-performance computing (HPC) clusters\; and HPC clusters
are often operated in Unix systems. \nPart 1 of this workshop explains the
most basics of Unix commands\, and you will learn to navigate through
folders and view files. No prior knowledge is required.\nPart 2 of this
workshop covers additional useful Unix commands such as bash scripts and
searching.\n\nParticipation in Part 1 is required.\nYou will need to bring
a Windows\, Mac\, or Linux computer to participate. Students can borrow a
laptop through the library’s Tech Lending program. If you need assistance
to fully participate in this workshop\, or have an accessibility request\,
please contact the instructor in advance (zhai@iastate.edu).\n\n
