What does the data say? Exploring data for environmental justice

What does the data say? Exploring data for environmental justice

This workshop will introduce and explore environmental justice – the right to a safe and clean environment – through case studies and data. Participants will work in small groups to explore how culture, power, privilege, and bias affect data and our current understanding of the environment and its impact on human populations. This is a beginner level, tech-lite workshop that will use discussion to critically examine both the limits and power of data as it applies to environmental justice topics.
No prior experience or technology is needed but participants are encouraged to bring a smart phone, tablet, or laptop if they have one available.

Slides, laptops, group discussions, sticky notes, and white boards may be used during this workshop. If you need assistance to fully participate, please contact the instructor in advance (mno@iastate.edu).
